Oostende at anchor (May-June, 2009)
For its 10th edition, Oostende at Anchor got hundreds of smaller and many
of the larger sailing yachts and ships at anchor in its harbor. This
automatically attracks thousends of people from all over Belgium (and beyond...).
As it was a splendid sunny day that sunday end of May 2009, we went to the
harbor by train as the Oostende railway station, is located at the heart of
the harbor from where every exhibitor and sailing ship can be visited.
Striking was the presence of hundreds of sailors, of marine vessels with
helicopters, sailing ships "Jantje", and "Artemis" (the latter well
known in Belgium from the TV quest "Mercator") and the thousends of
colorfull flags and sails; the whole event took place in a cosy atmosphere
with a mix of harbor smells going from baked fish and mussels till the ....well
known french fries....of course.....
